QE Hospital
For many years Birmingham has been crying our for a modern, well equipped city Hospital that could rejuvenate the local NHS facilities.Following months of negotiation, planning and developing safe systems of work with all project stakeholders, our client achieved financial close and instructed the commencement of works.
The project posed many obstacles, specifically, how could we move 8000m3 of material in a week (200 lorry movements a day) within a live hospital, through an extremely congested network of local city centre roads?
To execute the project we deployed a project management team with experience of managing large projects with significant logistical problems, a fleet of excavators, 60 eight wheelers and additional support services.
In accordance with our philosophy of maximising recyclable material, we devised material reprocessing strategies and systems of work which enabled excavated material to be re-incorporated within other areas of the development scheme. The additional benefits of doing this were to reduce our impact on the local environment with less vehicle movements and to reduce cost.
