East Norton Viaduct

East Norton Viaduct

This 13 span Viaduct close to the village of East Norton, Leicestershire measured 190 metres in length ( two football pitches), 12 storey’s in height and had a mass weight of 26,000 tonnes.

Apart from the obvious constraints associated with using explosives to demolish structures of this nature, this project had a number of additional Environmental constraints.

For example:
  • the risk of contaminating Eye Brook running below
  • the management and control of protected species (bats)
  • extensive traffic management
Our client, Rail Property Ltd, was particularly pleased that we were able to complete the project on time, on budget and re-use all of the recycled arisings in local infrastructure projects.
