Awards

2003 - Winner
Birmingham City Council
Major Demolition Contractor of the Year

This award was for the demolition of Princethorpe Tower, a 20 storey high pre-cast concrete tower block by the use of controlled explosives. The building itself was of concern as its structural form incorporated a number of inherent weaknesses due to the original construction methods. Following demolition the site has been fully landscaped forming an attractive addition to the area.

Site Manager, Craig Ellis:

“The site posed a number of difficulties not least of which was the close proximity of the River Rea which runs in a culvert just metres from the building and an electricity mains sub station within its grounds. The project set new professional standards of time scale for demolition – taking just 14 weeks from commencement to blowdown.

Building Consultancy:

“We recognise the enormous amount of commitment and organisation that goes in demolition contract and want to honour the contractors for good work. In doing so we aim to raise the standards of demolition work in Birmingham and encourage all contractors to produce good, safe and professional methods of demolition”.
