Awards

2007 - Winner
Birmingham City Council
Demolition Contractor of the Year

Haddon Tower
241 Bristol Street, Birmingham

Award Objectives:

Commitment and meticulous organisation is required in any demolition project, large or small. We aim to raise the standards for demolition work in Birmingham and encourage all contractors to work safely, professionally and to the highest standards.

The Project:

A live electricity substation plus two major roads, cricket and football grounds and around 100 people living nearby were just some of the challenges facing Coleman and Company Ltd when they demolished Haddon Tower. The blow down was part of the largest demolition contracts ever undertaken in the city. Materials containing asbestos had to be removed and pre weakening operations were undertaken before the tower was brought down by over 1,000 charges, totalling 38kg of explosives.

Judges Comments:

The project took just 14 weeks from start to blow-down and was the quickest that Coleman & Company have ever done. Despite many difficulties with the location of the site, everything went to schedule and to plan on day with all parties working extremely well together. The whole project was professionally managed and the work carried out to exceptionally high standards.
